Things have been busy!  We put our concrete mixer into use these past few weeks and poured the workshop floors, patio and column footings.  With lots of volunteers on hand all the pours went really well.  We chose concrete over earthen floors because the workshops will house large heavy machinery that needs extra support.  The patio will serve as as an extension of the workshop space and we now have a smooth, sturdy floor throughout – possible location for soccer and yoga until the workshops open up!

The Guatemalan crew is busy applying the lime-based stucco finish to the interior of the workshops, which will result in a smooth white finish that looks similar to painted drywall.  Next the patio columns and roof will go up, and then the doors and windows.

We are hot on the pusuit of clear and brightly colored glass bottles for the facade of the building.  We tested the “glass brick” strategy at the park on a small scale and were happy with the outcome.  All we need is a couple hundred more bottles and we´re ready to go.
